SACHA INCHI consumable oil (Plukenetia volubilis L. Oleum ex seeds). More information
SACHA INCHI Oil (Plukenetia volubilis L. Oleum ex seeds).
Sacha inchi is a semi-woody, winding, shrubby, climbing plant which appears in low as well as higher positions of a rainforest. Archaeological findings, however, show that it used to be cultivated on the Pacific coast in pre-inca times. Its seeds are commonly consumed as food, both cooked and roasted. In the San Martín region, meals such as inchicapi, lechona api or pururuca are prepared from the seeds. The seed oil has been used since time immemorial. It is currently wastly grown, because the oil obtained from the seeds is valued for its unique composition, especially the high content of unsaturated fatty acids Omega 3,6,9. With a certain amount of wit, the oil is referred to as “vegetarian fish oil”.
